“It’s easier than ever to do it online” << not quite yet. I couldn’t pay for registration transfer online and had to come to here. When seller transfer rego to my name I got notification, accepted it & upload rwc and when it come to paying the system says it’s all good an no payment is needed. 2 days later i got another notification saying i should pay otherwise registration will be suspended. I can’t see any option to do that step online in my vicroad account. It seems to be only done in branch or mail. I should get reimbursed for this inconvenience. However, good experience here. My concern is online. In response to your reply: I’ve contacted the number mentioned and was connected straight away but it looked as i was in wrong department so i was transferred to other department with waiting time 22 min. My suggestion is to offer call back. In regards to message us form, i did 3 times with no luck. Check my last one 502515531 my suggestion here is to make messaging more convenient so i can just reply to email instead of filling the form over & over again. Good IT guy is needed here to fix those technical issues. Thanks

Jess was my assessor for my VicRoads Driving Test in Carlton. He was incredible! Instantly calmed my nerves when I first met with him to get the paperwork done and once in the car gave the most clear, succinct and easy to follow instructions. Such a nice person, with warm and caring energy. I had heard some horror stories with driving assessors at Vic Roads from friends but he was so kind and thorough. Thanks so much Jessi you are a legend, was grateful to get you!

Nervous as hell for the driving test but I was welcomed by exceptional customer service which made a lot of difference. My test supervisor was Jess and can’t thank him enough for making me feel very comfortable and settle down my nerves !! He was not only accommodative but also exceptional in customer service. Best I could ask for on such a pensive day. Thank you team 🙂

Only taking online bookings. No walk-ins. I had a booking AND another simple task. I was told to just do it next time I was here. That was today. But that was not the case today. Covid-19 has changed everything. Bring extra patience. Don’t expect anything more than what you booked online. Hopefully things will get to normal in the next year or so…. Taking walk-ins now. No QR code to scan in to enter. I received quick service today. I think earlier in the day is less busy. (Just a hunch based on my experiences )

I am always amazed by people who have zero customer service skills yet decide to work in a customer facing job. Team Leader Anthony from the Carlton office embodied that perfectly today. The experience we had with him was disappointing and his attitude was one of complete disrespect and abruptness. Thank God Vicroads had other competent Team Leaders who can assist by simply explaining the rules in a respectful manner. Thank you Jenny!

I had Lisa as my driving test officer. She was so calm and made the whole experience quite enjoyable. I have heard many horror stories, but Lisa was so assuring and comforting to have in the car with you!

The front door staff is very nice but the customer service is so poor. An asian lady asked me my age and I didn’t hear that very clearly, so I wanted her to repeat. She becomes unhappy and asked why I don’t know how old I am. And then she told me the age I said is incorrect, should be 1 year elder but I haven’t had my birthday this year!! Wondering why she has my passport and push 1 year elder on me?!

I am very confused, my sister overseas’s drivers license residential address needed to be changed, I called 131171 and they said they would send a sticker to put on the license. I got that “sticker” today and there was absolutely nothing on it, just a blank sticker and i have no idea whats going on, it takes people half an hour to pick up, not not at all convenient. My issue has still not been resolved and now i have to drive to carlton 40 minutes away from me to change my sister’s residential address.

An actual joke. I don’t understand why we need to book weeks in advance just to register a car. My car has been sitting unregistered for months, and I finally have my appointment but since I am late I have to rebook. Granted, I shouldn’t be late but why on earth can’t I just come in to VicRoads and register my car? Being busy shouldn’t be an excuse when it is your job, no other state makes it this difficult. I am honestly going to drive the car to NSW or S.A just to register it there. Unbelievable. Edit:. Changed from 1 star to 2 star after a very patient and friendly call taker (Katherine) was able to move my booking to ararat. Long way from Melbourne, but rather train 2hours than wait the weeks or months it takes to register a car. Thank you

If I could give 0 stars I would. Woman handing tickets out was uninterested and rude. The wait time was fine- the lady who’s I was called to was the most dismissive unhelpful person I have ever come across in a customer service role. Think she needs a change of careers or some Prozac

Have had three goes at going to Burwood East with no luck. Not able to call and find out what to do. Went with my little one into the Carlton VicRoads today and got what I needed to do with 30 minutes wait. Very efficient and worth the drive!

I had a great experience taking my road test at VicRoad Carlton, the team’s very friendly, even the security team gave me big smiles when I walked in. I’m very grateful for my test instructor Lisa, big “thank you” to her. Lisa’s very calm and assuring, she gave very clear instructions before and on the road, and great feedbacks to help me improve and drive safely on the road. Had a great experience at VicRoads Carlton. Needed a new photo taken for my license renewal and was in and out in about 15 minutes. Staff were incredibly friendly and provided excellent customer service.

I discovered after having been issued with a defect notice, on long weekend, that one of my apparent looking back lights is only a reflector. Just b aware that if it’s a light u should b able to detect a globe if u shine a torch onto the area in question. Aman was v thorough upon inspecting & sought advice from his mgr who sorted the nagging doubt. All done in under an hour which is a gr8 outcome – from go to wo.

Huge shoutout to my LTO for my driving test, Lisa! She is so nice and calm and engaging! I was able to pass my drive test in large part to her calmness and clear instructions that were given to me. If you have Lisa as your LTO, the experience won’t be as scary! Thanks again 🙂

A reason this dept is labeled VicRoads and not VicTransport. It seems all that’s considered by this department is cars and trucks and for pedestrians and bikes not to get in the way of the endless pile of congestive garbage that plagues in particular the city of Melbourne. Melbourne city is 50years behind Europe or any developed nation in terms of pedestrian safety and access.

Took my drive test, the driving instructor was nice but he took me on rout where I was expected to stop despite there being no visible cues. No stop sign, no “STOP” on the road. Turning left onto a 40km per hour road. Since there was no visible cues, I continued with caution and head checked multiple times before turning. It was an immediate fail. The roads used for the test route are not ideal and there were aprox. 40 stop signs in the test because of the area. Do not go to Carlton for your drive test. Go further out than the city. I can see why I failed it was just a really unfair and unfortunate situation in my eyes. Don’t go here, go somewhere else further out from the city for your drive test.

Staff service is friendly enough but welcome back to 1990 in terms of the processes and the centre itself. Can’t process multiple forms at the one appointment and you can’t get appointments for more than a month. Also charging for appointments seems ridiculous.

It’s 30 years since I’ve been to Vic Roads & it used to be a nightmare. Yesterday’s experience was incredible! Covid check in was thorough, assistance to find the correct department was great & plenty of staff so that the entire experience only took about 15 minutes. The woman who I dealt with was incredibly friendly as well as being efficient. What all government departments should aspire to.

****UPDATE***** Thank you for the response on my review. I was able to book my appointment by calling on Saturday as advised. On the day of my Driving test, I had a positive experience at the Carlton Vicroads office. The officials were friendly and respectful. Overall, I had a nice experience during my drive test. —————————————————————————————————— My Driving Test was suspended twice due to COVID, and I haven’t received a priority booking invitation yet. Further, in my VicRoads online account, no previous booking records could be found. I submitted an enquiry online on 27-Oct, still haven’t heard anything from them. When I am trying to call the Carlton Customer Service Centre, the call always gets disconnected with a message that “the lines are busy now, call again later.” Not sure what to do now (visit the Centre and complain).

Hi Namrata, as we service the whole of Victoria our phone lines can get incredibly busy. The best time to call is when the line opens at 8am weekdays or 8:30am Saturdays. That is when it is quietest and easier to get through. Thanks, Megan

Very bad experience with VicRoads Carlton. We’re trying to get my import registered but got asked for the RAWs Consumer Information Notice which it is not necessary as the import approval was granted on 14 Oct 2021 (after 1 July 2021) even on VicRoads website it says only import approval granted up to 30 Jun 2021 would need that Notice. Showed them the website and the team leader says the website doesn’t state that but they still need to see it. My vehicle got the compliance sticker issued by the Department of Infrastructure and got the VIN stamped in the engine bay and I got the original and current roadworthy certificate and that’s all it takes to get it registered. Told them to check on the NEVDIS system but apparently they couldn’t get that information from it. The data is on there. Registered a few imports before and never got asked for this document. Now I need to pay again for the appointment and another UVP just because of their incompetence…

Hi, how can I make a booking to change an interstate license to a Victorian one? I’ve been trying to call the 13 11 71 number at different times over the last month and it keeps saying to call back later as the lines are busy. I also can’t make a booking online as the system keeps asking me for a Victorian drivers license number to proceed (and I don’t have one, which is why I’m trying to book an appointment)…is there anybody actually on the phonelines to take bookings or should I just turn up at the service centre and hope for the best?

Hi Jeremy, you should be able to book an appointment here: https://billing.vicroads.vic.gov.au/bookings/Interstate/TermsAndConditions You need to make sure that you have selected ‘no’ to the question ‘Did you previously hold a Victorian licence or learner permit?’ and it should let you book without a Vic Drivers licence. If you still need to call, our phone lines can get incredibly busy so I recommend calling when the line opens at 8am weekdays or 8:30am Saturdays – it’s usually quietest then. Thanks, Megan

Amazing services and friendly staff.We didn’t make an appointment when we reach there,just want to make some inquiries before we go to the next appointment at frankston Vicroad,all the staff from different department there do not hesitate to solve our problem and verify our oversea license on the spot.Highly recommend everyone go there and the wait time was not too long as well 🙂

Had my drive test recently with an old asian woman with short hair. She was extremely unfriendly for reasons i don’t know why from the very start. Did not introduce herself or provide any proper warm up before sitting into the car and adjusting her seat at all. That’s fine I guess if it’s not her job to be nice to people attending the test. During the drive test there was a small bump when left-turning due to the extended road work (as I remember), it did not affect my position entering into the street after the turn or the speed or any car in front or behind us. However, she gave instructions and we headed back to the drive centre. At the end of test i only had one tick for the minor fault, and she failed me by writing “Collision” on the result paper. That’s fine to me as well if the collision actually happened ( I did not recall at all) or a bump when turning left is considered a collision. The problem is she did not mention it was a collision when explaining to me why it was unsuccessful, i did not dispute or anything because of i didn’t know that was the failing reason, and it was my first drive test and i didn’t know the procedures or what is happening at all. However, this bad experience is not because I did not get to pass the test. When I parked the car at the drive centre, I did not park it well, one back wheel was on the line, because I felt like we ended the test too early and was wondering if I have failed and i was a bit distracted. But i was gonna reverse and adjust the car. At this moment, this lady said, “ask your boyfriend to come and park the car, you can’t drive”. This was her exact words. I was panicking and feeling ashamed at the time so i said sure and exited the car. But why would i be assaulted just because I was a new driver???? It was extremely disrespectful and unnecessary, to be rude to people who are attending the drive test. Like obviously I am not perfect on the road yet. But she doesn’t get to be rude, I was not harming her safety or anything. After getting home and reading the goolge review i found out that she completely gave different failing reasoning on the paper and orally to some other people. That’s just lies and maybe she can get away with it easier and finish her job quicker. And of course she was being rude to other people (I suspect females drivers mainly based on the reviews) as well. This is so bad and please avoid her – 40-50ish asian short-hair lady at any cost. I still feel traumatised for what she said to me.

I had my Ps driving test today and was failed by an incompetent Staff member named Sheng. She instructed me to move over to the left lane at a set of lights and then turn left when safe, so I did. Then after turning the corner she was convinced the arrow on the traffic lights was red and failed me on the spot. I cannot believe that this has happened because not only did I turn the corner when the light was green but so did the car in front of me and the car behind did the same. I even had my instructor beside me in passenger seat agreeing with me that the arrow was I fact green and not red. Shameful.

My driving test today was overwhelming I would say. After I passed the test, the driving instructor has issued me P licence) what? I needed to get a full license. I came back again and went upstairs customer service. I explained my case to Natalie. There was a mistake by Vicroads Broadmeadows, they did not put the date of my first overseas license when I went to have my licence verified. Natalie was very friendly. She congratulated me and fixed the error in the system promptly. I am happy I came back here again and met someone who could help in in 5 minutes. Can someone tell her that she is the best employee of the year?

The instructor Lisa was quite rude from the get go. Failed me for not stopping at a stop sign line which was completely false. Said I didn’t give way when there was a long gap in traffic. Don’t go here, if you get Lisa, good luck!

Trying to contact Vic road to ensure I have the correct documents from the police after my number plates were stolen. They keep hanging up on me, with a recording saying they are to busy. Really, with the cost of registration Vic Roads could surely could justify employing for staff….So 3rd world.

If you find you cannot get through, please give the team a buzz when our phone lines open at 8am weekdays or 8:30am Saturdays. This is when it is usually quietest and easier to get through. Otherwise, you are welcome to come into your nearest Customer Service Centre and the team will be able to help you out.

Visited last week to transfer a vehicle with my friend. We were expecting to wait a while as we arrived 30 minutes before closing time. After checking in using the QR code, a staff member asked the nature of our visit before giving us a queue ticket and directing us to proceed upstairs. After a two minute wait, our number was called. Around 5 minutes later, the transfer was complete and we were out the door and on our way home. All our interactions with the three different staff members and security were pleasant. Customer service was top notch, friendly, and super efficient. Completely exceeded our expectations.

After experiencing some problems with registration, I needed to attend Vicroads in person. My call and conversation with VIC call centre TL was very frustrating, his empathy lacked sincerity and at times I felt as if he muted the call due to taking a moment to respond to me. I wasnt expecting much when I headed in to Carlton service centre – however apon entry everyone was plesant and welcoming. Bronwyn who helped me resolve my registration problems was fantastic, acknowledging my concerns she handed me over to Hannah (customer service specialist?) who again listened, acknowledged and showed sincere empathy in response, she took the time to look into my account and ensure the potential of “these problems” were minimised. Should be 5 stars, but unfortunately someone in “the team” and the failure of internal processes brought it down. If there is a problem with your automated system -dont blame your customer (directed to call centre). Highly recommend VICRoads Carlton for your next appointment.

Hubby needed to transfer his licence from his international one, we booked an appointment online. We arrived on time and everything went really, really smooth considering the changes with covid. They were pretty busy but it was all managed super well. From check in, to paperwork, eye test, to the photo – everyone was really great from start to finish (including security guard helping at the door!) Our lovely lady at the teller was efficient, sweet and friendly. Thank you so much!

Sharing my driving test experience- I was extremely nervous and was having severe performance anxiety. No surprise that I let my nerves get the best of me but the female driving test instructor (I forgot the name), was extremely nice, very calm and tried her best to make me feel comfortable. I have seen some really rude staff at vicroads but to my surprise her service was impeccable. I am not sure if test taker has the luxury to choose their instructor but I would def recommend her. Thank you VicRoads Carlton!

I have been working as a driving educator with this VicRoads Customer Service Centre (CSC) since 2016, and although have had my issues, I have to say it’s been one of the best service centres around! Recently, my student and I had two amazing Licenced Testing Officers, one by the name of Bronwyn. Bronwyn was very accommodating when we realised there was something wrong with our vehicle at the last minute, and she was highly empathetic and kind towards my student. The second Licenced Testing Officer was Lisa, whom was absolutely lovely, we had a wonderful conversation and Lisa made my student feel relaxed and ready to take on the drive test. I would also like to thank a previous staff member, Jess. Jess who currently works at the Coolaroo pop up CSC, was one of the best Licenced Testing Officers I have ever dealt with. Jess is just an all round legend of a gentlemen that VicRoads staff can learn from. Last but not least, thank you to Narinphat, the VicRoads Centre Manager in Carlton, for always being there and making contact with people like myself, when we had any issues. Narinphat’s professionalism and kindness is another reason why I believe this VicRoads CSC is one of the best! Staff is really helpful and empathetic. I’ve done my driver’s test here and Pavit was very supportive, providing always clear and timely instructions. The lady who supports the road law and hazards test is also very friendly.

Had a great experience this morning. Hassle free and staff would really check on you to cater your needs. Big shoutout to Shane who was my drive test examiner for being so awesome. He calmed me down by providing me clear instructions, reminders and encouragement before and during the test. Thank you Shane and the Carlton VicRoads Team. Keep up the great service!🙏👍

Had the first computer test there .The woman called Jenny was very rude .She delayed our test,no apology , extremely impatient instead .There is no smile on her face at all during the service .Well we don’t owe her anything though .

Nice place. Efficient, friendly door staff. However, the elderly gentleman that served me this afternoon couldn’t have been less interested in serving me. I felt like I was a massive inconvenience to him being his customer. Frustratingly he didn’t advise me I needed to surrender the plates from the interstate vehicle I was registering in Victoria. Now I need to make a special trip back to VIC roads just to do this.

All the staff members were nice and helpful. Did my driving test here for my Overseas License conversion and everything ran smoothly and on time. My assessor was Bhavik who was really supportive and encouraging throughout the whole test.

I had my driving test today at Vicroads Carlton with Bhavik. Everything went very smoothly. He was very clear with his instructions and very helpful and systematic. Thank you Bhavik and thank you Vicroads for giving me the exemption to be able to conduct all the tests during this never ending lockdown.

I had been involved in an accident and was 40 minutes late to my appointment – The woman who greeted me was so rude and unsympathetic- saying if I was “5 minutes late” maybe they could squeeze me in. Was finally able to see someone after requesting to see the manager (had to ask multiple times? Wth?) thank god

I was told that another road user had to intervene by pressing her/his brakes, when I thought the road user was giving me way for my lane change. I felt the failure I got was unfair and I’d like to contest it, is there a way of doing that? The instructor named Patrick was quite young and to be honest, I don’t think he is qualified enough to be a tester himself. He didn’t comfort me and even went onto stating at the end of the test that I was way too nervous (like come on bro, really? That’s a normal emotion to have) and did nothing to help me feel comfortable. I feel like failing me was a slight power trip for him, given we’re around the same age. Also, more toilets are needed at the centre.

I had my driving test on Thursday 26 August @ 10.30 am at Vicroads Carlton with Bhavik. I am a woman in her 50’s and Bhavik treated me with the utmost respect and made me feel comfortable. He was very clear with his instructions and very helpful and systematic. Thank you Bhavik and thank you VicRoads for giving me the exemption to be able to sit my driving test during these times.

Today I was booked in to get a new rego on an interstate vehicle. Due to some traffic only 500 meters away from Vic roads Carlton I was late for my appointment but instead of being told to reschedule Bronwyn went to great lengths not to have me sent away to reschedule and then I was assisted by Patrick who performed the necessary inspection. I can only say that common sense prevailed and everything was handled perfectly. Thankyou for your assistance and efforts

I had a driving test with Bhavik – he’s an absolute legend! I was so nervous from failing my last license test (and he clearly could see I was struggling to remain composed). He was so kind to make me feel comfortable, even saying I should imagine driving him “as a friend”. I well and truly passed and had a very good experience under his test. Thank you Bhavik and please, do more of what you do best!

I did my drive test at VicRoads Carlton yesterday to get my Ps and it was a really great experience. Everyone was very covid-safe and helpful upon arrival and my 8.50am appointment was right on time without any delay. The driving instructor was very professional and polite and made me feel comfortable and confident while being tested. I’d recommend this venue to others for their driving test.

I write from the point of view of a driving instructor. I’ve had many learners successfully obtain their driver’s licences at VicRoads Carlton. It has something of a reputation but I’ve always found it a well managed and helpful office. It’s the closest testing centre to Melbourne City and, so long as one prepares adequately for the realities of inner-city life, it is a good place to drive. It’s important to pick your time to come along, as both the office and surrounding roads do have their peak periods.

Quite efficient, way better than I was expecting from your standard government agency. Friendly and polite staff who knew what to do, with waiting time of less than 5min. They were able to assist with my license renewal queries and were very easy to deal with. Good to see from Vicroads. Thanks!

Very rude and impatient staff working at Counter number 9 on 2/7/21 at 1:20pm. Staff had her mask beneath her nose while talking to me. When I asked more questions to clarify something she just snapped. If you hate your job, you should work elsewhere.

I was told on the phone: “its all good, make an appointment, pay your money for the appointment now.” So I took time off work, missioned all the way in there to find out that, the lovely young girl Scarlett (who i spoke to on the phone) didn’t even check. Qld had not responded, I was not clear to transfer my licence. And I just waisted 2 hours of paid work time, and 2 hours of my own time for nothing.

I took my driving test recently at this centre although I was advised not to to be honest. The tester whose name unfortunately I can’t remember was polite and clear with his communication, so everything went pretty smoothly. A very positive experience generally despite how busy the centre was given the whole covid situation.

Efficient and awesome service from the counter up to my drive test. Bharvik my examiner was friendly, calm and gave the instructions loud and clear and explain everything carefully. He told me not to stress out and be confident. Made my exam an enjoyable experience.

Call center is systematically understaffed and turning away callers – no ability to wait in queue. When you do finally connect post Monday (Monday’s seemingly bad) you are made to wait over 30 minutes in queue. Just a shocking distain shown to customers, and puts the poor call center team on the receiving end of some really irate callers I am sure. Disgraceful management.

Today I cleared my overseas license test. I felt relaxed and comfortable during the entire test period, thanks to Bhavik, who was an amazing license testing officer. He gave clear and easy to understand instructions. The overall service and experience was also more than satisfactory.

I went in to renew my license and get a new photo taken. It was super busy. I was given a ticket and directed upstairs. As I walked up the ticket number before mine was called, and mine was called not long after. I think I was in and out in 10 minutes. It was the best experience I’ve ever had with VicRoads. Completely amazing.

Had a drive test for my full license a few days ago. Jess, my test officer, was extremely friendly, polite and attentive. I wasn’t nervous at all and passed on my first try. Despite there were some delays and my test started a little later than scheduled, that could be explained by high demand (the service center was really crowded on that day). I have never seen any motor vehicles department in my life in any other country that worked perfect and absolutely prompt. So I don’t judge this service center either. But there is definitely a room for improvement, and Carlton center could try to achieve outstanding service quality and become an example of a perfect one!

I was served by Sam today regarding booking of my test and my partner. They guy went above and beyond to find the right dates and treating the situation like his own. Such an asset to vic roads. Other staff helping queue members were also very informative and friendly. I visited Burwood before which is nothing compared to this center. Keep it up Sam and rest vic roads staff.
